Sixteen South Plains football players were named to the 67th annual Texas Sports Writer’s Association’s all-state team through the course of the past week.
The Lubbock area produced three first-teamers, three second-teamers and 10 third-teamers across the various classifications.
Local trench players got the highest recognitions with Estacado guard Devin White and Coronado defensive tackle Miguel Garcia going to the Class 4A and Class 5A first teams, respectively. Estacado defensive back JJ Walton also was placed on the 4A first team.
Coronado produced the area’s three second-teamers in receiver Blair Conwright, linebacker Trey Stephens and senior center Jaylon Thomas. Conwright and Stephens will return to the Mustangs’ fold this fall while Thomas is moving on to the SMU program.
There were a few discrepancies in terms of college potential to landing spots on the TWSA team.
Most notably, Texas offensive tackle signee Reese Moore and Army linebacker signee Cade Barnard were placed on the 4A third-team. Both players represented Seminole.
