HS Volleyball Roundup: Shallowater sweeps Colorado City



SHALLOWATER — Cailyn Breckel totaled eight kills as Shallowater defeated Colorado City 25-21, 25-14, 25-22 in District 2-3A play.

Mia Olivo recorded seven kills, nine assists and three aces for the Fillies. Mady McCully had 13 assists, eight kills and an ace.

Shallowater (23-4) is slated to play a dual match in River Road against the Lady Wildcats at 5 p.m., and Highland Park at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.


Ahrih Hill recorded four block and three kills as Estacado fell to Levelland 25-6, 25-13, 25-13 in District 2-4A play.

Brittani Simmons and Ku’jett Childress totaled two kills and two block for the Lady Matadors. Tye Perryman had three blocks and two kills.

Estacado (0-1) is scheduled to play Seminole at 6:30 p.m. Monday on the road.


AMARILLO — Jaime Milburn totaled three kills as Plainview fell to Caprock 25-22, 25-9, 25-10 in District 3-5A play.

Julissa Chavez recorded 17 digs for the Lady Bulldogs. Christen Gonzalez had six digs and two aces.

Plainview (11-23, 0-5) hosts Randall at 7 p.m. Tuesday.



Tech track team reaches No. 1 in national ranking

The Texas Tech men’s team on Monday moved up to No. 1 in the weekly rankings by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the first Tech team in any sport to be ranked No. 1 in 14 years.
