PLAINVIEW — Senior guard Ruben Lopez scored 15 points, leading the way for six double-digit scorers, as No. 21 Wayland Baptist posted a 96-74 home victory Thursday night against No. 20 University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma.
The outcome moved Wayland to 11-3 and 4-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference basketball race and dropped USAO to 12-3 and 3-3.
Samuel Kalwanyi and Trevonta Robertson scored 13 points apiece for the Pioneers, and Josh Throns, Tyrone Davis and Coronado graduate J.J. Culver each had 12. Lopez also had nine assists, and Culver also had a team-high eight rebounds and three assists.
The Pioneers shot 63 percent from the field and made 14 of 19 3-point goals. Throns made four 3s, and Lopez and Davis hit three 3s apiece.
Julius Foster poured in 26 points for USAO, followed by Brandon Scott with 15.
It was the second game in a row and eighth time this season for Wayland Baptist to score at least 90 points.

PLAINVIEW — Shaylynn Bass and Dierra Ely scored 19 and 17 points, respectively, and the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma knocked off No. 5 Wayland Baptist in a matchup of Sooner Athletic Conference contenders at Hutcherson Center.
USAO (13-2, 5-1) had plenty of firepower in its seventh consecutive victory, getting 15 points from Darian Hill and 11 points and 12 rebounds from Vivian Holcomb.
Guard Maci Merket and center Deborah VanDijk led Wayland (10-3, 4-2) with 20 and 18 points, respectively. Kambrey Blakey added 12 points, and Shallowater graduate Morgan Bennett supplied 10 points, six rebounds and six assists.
USAO took the lead for good just before halftime and nursed narrow leads throughout the second half.
