FAST BREAK: Lady Raiders prepare for first road trip of the year

After a seven-game homestand, the Texas Tech women’s basketball team is hitting the road for the first time this season.

The Lady Raiders (3-3) are looking to snap a two-game losing streak when they face off against Houston at Texas Southern’s H&PE Arena due to a restoration project at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Texas Tech is looking to bounce back following a 48-40 loss to LSU as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Thursday.

In the defeat, the Lady Raiders had two players —Receé Caldwell and Brielle Blaire — finish in double figures.

Caldwell ended the night with 10 points on 3 of 13 shooting, while Blaire ended with 10 points, as well. Sophomore post Brittany Brewer ended the night with eight points, but also chipped in 10 rebounds.

As a whole, Texas Tech shot 33 percent from the field and made 6 of its 10 free-throw attempts.

“We just have to find ways to score, to cut down on turnovers, and when you finish with just nine assists on 16 shots made, that’s not enough,” Texas Tech coach Candi Whitaker said following the loss to LSU.

The Lady Raiders turned the ball over 21 times. It marked the third time this season Texas Tech had turned the ball over 20 or more times, which all resulted in two losses (Texas State, LSU) and one win (Florida A&M).

Unlike the the Lady Raiders, who have been at home for most of the early part of the season, Houston has dealt with the opposite.

The Cougars have been on a month-long road trip — eight straight games — before they will get to enjoy a home game, which will be played at Texas Southern.

Houston is led by four different players who have averaged double figures, including Jasmyne Harris (18.1 points), Anegla Harris (14.1), Dorian Branch (11.5) and Serithia Hawkins (10).

The Cougars are coming off a Friday win over UT Arlington, which is coached by former Texas Tech standout Krista Gerlich. Houston has won its last four contests.
