NEW YORK — NASA released dozens of photographs of the space shuttle Challenger’s smashed crew cabin to a New York man who sued, citing the federal Freedom of Information Act, following the deadly 1986 crash.


50 years ago:

The governor’s race already has several moderate to conservative Democratic candidates - Lt. Gov. Preston Smith, Dallas radio-television executive Gordon McLendon and Pat O’Daniel, son of former governor W. Lee O’Daniel, have paid their filing fees.

75 years ago:

LONDON - Frenchmen, revolting, barricaded themselves inside their homes in the old port district of Marseille tonight and began fighting German troops who called up tanks and artillery, reports from Switzerland said.
