Blood drives to be held across region

 

United Blood Services will host nine blood drives around the region throughout the rest of this week.

People interested in donating blood or platelets can visit the Lubbock UBS office at 48th Street and University Avenue, or one of the following locations:

Hepatitis C testing clinic set Wednesday

Lubbock Lighthouse will host a hepatitis C virus testing clinic with Quest Labs on Wednesday.

The clinic will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at 1308 Ave. Q, Suite A, and will be open to the general public.

People identified as hepatitis C positive will be referred to Linkage To C Care, which coordinators free or low cost treatment for hepatitis C.

Holiday Boot Camp to begin Nov. 28

The UMC Activities Center will host Holiday Boot Camp with Sharon, which will start in late November.

Camp participants will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. from Nov. 28 through Dec. 21.

The cost to attend is $30 and registration is required. The deadline to sign up is Monday.

The class will include cardio, muscle toning, core strengthening, stretching and a warm up/cool down. Proper attire and shoes are required to participate.

The UMC Activities Center is located at 5217 82nd St., Ste. 128.

Health groups offer adult vaccinations

The Free Clinic and the Lubbock Health Department have formed a partnership to offer free vaccinations every third Wednesday at Lubbock Impact, according to a news release from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

Vaccines including pneumococcal, hepatitis A and B, influenza, TdaP (for tetanus, diphtheria and adult whooping cough), Gardasil (for human papillomavirus), meningococcal (for meningitis) and Zostavax (for shingles) will be available, according to the news release.

Vaccinations will be available from 3 to 5 p.m. every third Wednesday at 2707 34th St.

The Free Clinic is an urgent care clinic run by Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Medicine physicians and medical students. Free basic health care is provided for the uninsured, homeless and working poor populations every Wednesday from 6 to 10 p.m., according to the news release.

The Free Vaccinations Clinic Day will be open to patients 19 to 64 years old.

Those interested in receiving vaccinations are encouraged to take immunizations records, according to the news release.

Mammography unit to make area stops

The Covenant Mobile Mammography Unit will make rounds through area communities, including Lubbock, throughout October.

Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance are accepted. Financial assistance will be available to those who qualify, according to a press release from Covenant.

Appointments are encouraged. Call (806) 725-6579 or (877) 494-4797 to set one up.
