Southland ISD voters approve tax rate set to yield $86K more for district

Southland Independent School District’s proposition to set a tax rate at $1.17 per $100 of assessed value passed by a vote of 31-2 on Tuesday night.

Wynn Robinson, superintendent of Southland, said there was a rollback of the tax rate from $1.17 to $0.99 at the end of last year.

“We needed the $1.17 rate,” he said. “Unless their values went up, they’re paying the same amount as last year.”

Having voters approve the proposition is “wonderful,” he said.

“It amounts to $86,000 for Southland school district that we would not have had,” Robinson said, conceding that the amount could pay for two teachers’ salaries.
