Snyder man sentenced to federal prison for receiving images of minor in sex act

A federal judge sentenced Friday a 25-year-old Scurry County man who admitted to receiving sexually explicit images from a minor to more than five years in prison.

U.S. Senior District Judge Sam Cummings handed down a 63-month prison sentence to Roberto Quinonez Albarez Jr., who pleaded guilty in November to a count of receipt of a visual depiction of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct and aiding and abetting.

Albarez will remain out on bond and was allowed to surrender to prison on April 21, according to court documents.

According to documents filed with the case, Albarez, while living in Scurry County, used an Apple iPhone to communicate with a minor in Travis County between September 2014 and March 2015.

During the communication, Albarez received images of the minor engaging in a sexual act, the documents state.

Albarez was arrested Oct. 19, a month after a grand jury indicted him. He will have to register as a sex offender when he is released from prison.
