Suspect arrested in Saturday night standoff in East Lubbock County

Harvey Leon Baxter was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center after leading DPS troopers on a pursuit that ended as a standoff in East Lubbock County.

One person was arrested in what ended as a standoff out in East Lubbock County Saturday night.

 

A trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety attempted to stop a vehicle near the Nolan and Scurry County line for a traffic violation, according to DPS Lt. Bryan Witt.

“The stolen pickup refused to stop,” he said, “and the DPS troopers followed the suspect into Lubbock County before it ran out of gas between Lubbock and Slaton on US 84.”

The Lubbock County Sheriff’s department SWAT team and canine division assisted DPS in apprehending the suspect after it was determined that he had a firearm inside the vehicle, said Witt.

He said the suspect arrested Saturday night was Harvey Leon Baxter, 27, of Abilene.

Baxter was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center. He was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm and a felony of evading arrest/detention with a motor vehicle.

The incident remained under investigation Sunday.
