Lubbock residents remember 1970 tornado

What began as a clear-weather forecast one May evening spun into a deadly catastrophe that would forever mar Lubbock's history. Twenty-seven years ago today, a black funnel dropped from the night sky into the heart of the Hub City's downtown, cutting a path of destruction about a mile wide and more than eight miles long. The storm claimed 26 lives, brought down thousands of dwellings and caused millions of dollars in damage. Read more
